Author Biography
Albert James Pickett was born in Anson City, N.C., but moved to Alabama at eight years old. He attended Stafford County Academy in Virginia and Harvard College before reading law with his brother, William Dickson Pickett. Instead of practicing law, Pickett operated a plantation in Autauga County and wrote on historical and agricultural subjects for newspapers and journals. He also did extensive research for his history of Alabama and for a history of the Southwest, which he was writing at the time of his death in 1858.
