Heatmap: Books

This is a prototype of a chronological heat map that can be used to visualize and interact with the 1,438 publications in the Alabama Authors Book List Collection.

The ability to visualize and interact with the large data set facilitates ease of exploration of the breadth and depth of this carefully cultivated collection.

Each wedge of the calendar wheel represents one of the twenty decades that span the 19th and 20th centuries. The color gradient represents the density of the publications - the darker the shade of blue, the greater the quantity of publications for the selected time period. To select a decade, click the wedge on the calendar wheel or the text in the menu on the right side of the screen. Click on a book image to view the cover. Click on a book title to navigate to the details page within the collection.
