Author Biography
Bernard Adams Reynolds was born in South Carolina. He graduated from Captain Alden Patridge’s Military School in New England and Yale or Trinity College. After reading law and being admitted to the bar in South Carolina, Reynolds decided to move to Mobile, Ala., and write for the Mobile Tribune. He had a regular column, “Mobile in Slices,” which inspired his book Sketches of Mobile, from 1814 to the Present Time. Reynolds also wrote a play, Raphael or the Ambitious Painter, which was produced in Mobile around 1850. During the Civil War, Reynolds served in the Confederate Army and was captured at Fort Gaines and held as a prisoner of war at Ship Island. He died in 1878.
