Author Biography
Washington Bryan Crumpton was born in Camden, Alabama. He received his education from Georgetown College in Kentucky, where he studied for two years before his sense of duty led him to serve in the 37th Mississippi Infantry of the Confederate States of America during the Civil War. Following the war, he was ordained into the Baptist ministry. He served as the corresponding secretary of the Baptist Mission Board of Alabama for twenty-eight years and assumed the role of editor of the Alabama Baptist in 1895. His leadership extended to the broader Baptist community, where he served as president of the Alabama Baptist State Convention in 1917 and as a trustee of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Beyond his religious duties, Crumpton was also deeply involved in social and political causes, notably serving as president of the Anti-Saloon League of Alabama. Crumpton passed away in 1926.
