Author Biography
John Herbert Phillips was born in Covington, Kentucky. He received a bachelor's degree from Marietta College in 1880 and an honorary LL.D. in 1905. Phillips also studied at the University of Edinburgh, University of Chicago, and the University of Alabama. He served as Superintendent of Public Schools in Birmingham in 1883.
